If you’re like me and love to get lost in nature, I bet Forest Park is on the top of your list of favorite places in St. Louis. (And, in case you haven’t heard, it’s also topped the list of “10 Best City Parks” on USA Today.)
Before I moved to my current apartment, I lived one block from Forest Park. I would cross Lindell Boulevard and take a stroll in the park with my dog Roxy every day, rain or shine. If I tell you I know every inch of the park, I do mean it literally. And you wouldn’t believe how many cell phone pictures I’ve taken during my daily walks!
So you can easily imagine how bummed out I was when I had to move away! Now I still visit Forest Park. Maybe once a week on average, less in cold days like this. As a St. Louis wedding photographer, I photograph my couples in the park all the time. (See my favorite sessions below.) But I sure miss the convenience of having the best city park as my backyard.
Listen Forest Park
let everyone around the world sit back and enjoy the sounds of our region’s greatest civic treasure—no matter where they happen to be.
In bitter cold winter like this (or when you’re simply feeling too lazy to move), you can now surround yourself with the relaxing sounds recorded in different parts of the park. My personal favorites are John F. Kennedy Memorial Forest and Deer Lake Savanna. With all the birds singing, wind blowing, and water flowing, you’ll immediately find yourself in the wild, experiencing a totally different side of Forest Park!
Emerson Grand Basin, Picnic Island, and Prairie Boardwalk Near Steinberg Skating Rink are three other locations you can check out in the comfort of your home. Go give the sounds of Forest Park a listen and treat yourself a relaxing afternoon (or a good night’s sleep).
While you’re there, you can purchase four different birdcalls heard throughout the park as ringtones for only $1.29 each and support this great non-profit organization!
