I’ve been to the Greek Festival a couple of times. I’ve even toured St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Central West End. But I’ve never been to a Greek Orthodox Wedding, not to mention photograph one. But this wedding at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Town & Country opened my eyes to a whole new tradition. From the breathtaking interiors of the church to the stunning Palestinian bride, from the lighting of candles to the crowning of the couple, from the bold colors of the wedding decor to boisterous dances of the guests: everything is steeped in an age-old tradition and yet filled with love and personality of the young couple. Here’s a sneak peek!
When I was thinking about which photo to use as the featured image of this blog post, I couldn’t decide: both the photo of the bride dancing joyfully among her friends and family AND the photo of the bride and groom sitting in a chair and being raised up high in the air by the guests (see the second to last collage below) have captured perfectly what their day felt to me–simply full of joy, energy, love, and laughter. What a better day could you hope for?
